Neist Point Lighthouse on the Isle of Skye

In a year of lockdowns I went up to the Isle of Skye for 10 days in October 2020.  I had a wonderful week of moody skies and waterfalls, so was surprised with two clear and still nights which allowed me to experience the dark skies for some night photography.

Neist Point Lighthouse with its dramatic cliffs falling into the sea is on the most westerly point of Skye looking towards the Outer Hebrides.

I arrived just before the popular sunset hour and continued to sit on the lower cliffs watching the Milky Way brighten under the dark Hebridean skies.  As this was taken in October the Milky Way core was not visible at this latitude, but Jupiter and Saturn add some interest to the night sky.

Taken with my Nikon D850 and professionally printed in carbon neutral lab in London (additionally for every print bought I donate £5 to the Woodland Trust to help offset any delivery impact). I have chosen to print on Hahnemühle German Etching, which has a warm base tone and a mottled texture which adds texture to the cliffs rugged face. German Etching is a heavy weight Giclée art printing paper at 310 gsm.
